Minutes of July 2008

Meeting called to order at 7:10 PM by club Vice President, Mark Rubio.  Attendance was not taken for this meeting.  A June Nor-Cal meeting report was read.

Old Business

Randy put up new targets on the practice range and North range.

Dry tech mesh T-shirts will be ordered.  Minimum order is 48 shirts, which would cost $24 each.  Mark and Shaun are collecting names and sizes for the order.  They will be burgundy with the large club logo on back and small logo on the chest.  We need to move forward on the 3-D animal target repair.  Time and materials will cost about $2000-$2500 for the entire herd.  This was voted on and approved for further action.  We need to transport the animals to Red Bluff for repairs.  Ken has a trucking company and generously offered to transport them to Red Bluff for the cost of fuel.  It was also voted on and approved to purchase a new elk for the herd.  Robert T. volunteered a set of actual elk antlers for the animal.

Please send any information, news or pictures that you would like to have added to our website to Shaun Ayers sayers@ucdavis.edu.  The website can be accessed at http://yolobowmen.com/.

Range Report- Randy Gastineau

Randy mowed part of the south range and has ordered new paper targets. Work parties are on the first Saturday of the month.  Randy suggested that some of the bails are shot out and need to be rotated.  Also if we can get enough help at the work party we can glue targets.

Financial Report – Robert Tabaraz

For details on club finances please attend the meetings.

Equipment Report – Chad Reis

A new tool set and brooms were purchased for the club.  A belt on one of the mowers was fixed.

New Business

Mark talked about hosting the State Field Shoot next year, which would be great exposure for the club and bring in additional revenue.  We would need to add 14 more targets and would most likely host in June of next year.  Mark priced gates, a 10-foot gate would cost us $178.00 and a12-foot would cost $196.00.  The posts for the gates would cost $12.10, they are 8ft x 6in round.  Motion was made and approved to buys the gates and posts.  For the new practice range, a couple of the targets on the south range need to be relocated.  The placement of these targets will need to be approved by a range inspector.  Please note there will be a controlled burn, held by the county, North of the range sometime in August.  Additional club pins have been ordered for next year’s oasis shoot.  Tree stands at this point are not ok.  Club is to get new rules in writing on tree stand insurance policy.  A binder containing club history is missing.  If anybody has any info about the lost binder please contact an officer.  There was a discussion as to why only officers have keys to the sheds. Also please not that HBO will be filming part of a movie called "Big Love" at the grasslands regional park on Aug 8-13th.  The north range, practice range, and parking lot north of the main access road will be closed during this time for the protection of the film crew, actors, etc.  The county wanted to close the entire range but Robert Williams talked them into letting us continue to shoot the south range and use the parking areas south of the access road.  However on the 11th of Aug. the south side needs to closed as well because they are planning to use the entire area.  So south side area use only Aug. 8-10th, and 12-13th.  The entire range will be closed Aug. 11th.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Broadhead League

Broadhead animal targets (Makenzie XT targets w/replaceable core) are priced anywhere from $200-$400 each depending on the size of target.  Mark is going to make a list of the animals and get with John at Frontline Archery to get us a total cost, to be shared at the next meeting.  For further details on the broadhead league please attend the next meeting.

A Brief Introduction

The Yolo Bowmen Archey Range was founded in 1958 with the aim to promote the sport of archery and bowhunting. The range is located at Grasslands Regional Park in Davis, California. Though the range is open to the public for a small fee ($5), formal membership is affordable and highly encouraged. The range consists of two 14 target fieldcourses and an excellent practice range.
