Minutes of June 2008

Meeting called to order at 7:05 PM by club president, Robert Williams.  Present were: John Tarro, John Hughes, Jim Wohlgemuth, Joe Campisi, Paul Ackerman, Alex Vervilos, Bill Hornof Sr., Chad Reis, Robert R. Tabarez, Robert, Dustin Robben, Dan Bickel, Randy Gastineau, Zachary Tarro, Shaun Ayers, Aubrey and Toby Sorrez, and Mark Rubio.

Old Business

Kevin got the T-Shirt samples.  Members discussed and then voted to purchase Sport-Tech Dry Mesh collared shirts in the color maroon.  Our logo will be printed small on the front and large on the back.  Prices are $21.50 for Small-XL, $22.50 for XXL and $24.50 for XXXL.  Mark has yet to get in touch with the Raglin target company to look at prices for target repair. No tree stands on the range, Robert talked to the insurance company and it is not covered by our liability insurance.  Robert also called Chris at the county and made agreements to move the picnic tables away from the practice range. They will be placed near the snack shack.  We need to get working on the new practice range A.S.A.P.!

Please send any information, news or pictures that you would like to have added to our website to Shaun Ayers sayers@ucdavis.edu.  There is an issue right now with uploading pictures, Shaun is working with Jon Adams to get that resolved and will get the backlog of photos on the site as soon as possible.  The website can be accessed at http://yolobowmen.com/.

Range Report- Randy Gastineau

New targets need to be hung on the practice range and elsewhere.  We need to clear brush and also glue more targets.  After gnats start to die down, he suggested that we get together in the evenings to work on targets and other things.  Remember that work parties are on the first Saturday of every month.

Financial Report – Robert Tabaraz

For details on club finances please attend the meetings.

Equipment Report – Chad Reis

Chad replaced the belt on the lawnmower that needed a belt replacement.

New Business

We have renewed our charter with the NFAA, and Zachary Tarro has the certificate.  Robert Tabarez will be contacting the NFAA to see whether they will warn us when our charter is going to expire or whether we have to keep track of it ourselves.  Robert Williams has purchased 10 orange vests for officers and members to wear at events so guests can easily identify members if they have questions or issues.  Apparently couples are trespassing on some mornings, driving unauthorized vehicles onto the range and participating in non-archery related team activities.  I doubt our liability insurance would cover the spread of STD’s so if you see anyone with an unauthorized vehicle, or anybody doing private business on the range, please tell them to leave.  Robert is working with the park manager at the county to get some gates and "No Unauthorized Vehicles" signs put up.  Different gates options and methods were discussed, but it was determined that Mark would be checking prices before any major decisions were made.  Robert Tabarez made a proposal that a majority agreed on to purchase a $99, 211 piece tool kit with metric and standard measurements and also a couple of push brooms.  Jim is working on getting a few more trashcans for around the range, thanks Jim.   Reminder: work parties on every first Sat. from 9-12.  Also, if you can make it, go to other clubs' shoots to represent the Yolo Bowmen!  Again, NO SMOKING ON THE RANGE.  Robert brought up the issue, and it was subsequently voted upon to reinstate the annual May Club Picnic with the hope of getting more family participation in club events.  Members should be aware that the county will soon be control burning the area outside of the safety fence on the North side.  More pins need to be ordered for the Oasis Shoot.

Broadhead League

It has been voted that a broadhead league will be created.  Not all details have been discussed yet but here are a few.  Mark is going to talk with Harry at the Mackenzie target company to see how much 14 3-D targets would cost.  If people do not have broadheads, they can shoot field tips.  This would be in addition to the Wednesday night league, not a replacement.  It was considered that it would maybe be on a Monday or Tuesday.  All targets will be marked yardage, and set at realistic hunting distances.  There will be no red spots on targets, just rings that get progressively smaller in the organ areas.  So basically it is shooting for the highest percentage kill shot.  We still need to decide what combination of targets to purchase, taking price into consideration.  1st arrow to score will be counted.

Meeting Adjourned at 8:15 by Robert Willams.

Remember: NO SMOKING ON THE RANGE

A Brief Introduction

The Yolo Bowmen Archey Range was founded in 1958 with the aim to promote the sport of archery and bowhunting. The range is located at Grasslands Regional Park in Davis, California. Though the range is open to the public for a small fee ($5), formal membership is affordable and highly encouraged. The range consists of two 14 target fieldcourses and an excellent practice range.
