Minutes of May 2008

The meeting was called to order by club president, Robert Williams at 7:10 pm.  Attendance was not recorded.

Old Business;

The quest for Yolo Bowmen t-shirts is moving ahead but slowly, Kevin is working on getting samples for us to check out and discuss.

Please send any information, news or pictures that you would like to have added to our website to Shaun Ayers ( sayers@ucdavis.edu ).  The website can be accessed at http://yolobowmen.com/.  A number of new hunting and target photos have been added.  Thanks to Zach for taking photos during the recent shoots.

New Business;

A liability concern was raised; apparently a tree stand was put up for practice shooting.  It was requested that members stay out of the trees unless we talk to the insurance agency about it and get an OK.

Please be on the lookout for someone shooting Carbon Express Rebel Hunter arrows with green and white fletching.  Try to get that person’s name and relay it on to one of the officers.

Due to a lack of broad participation, it was suggested that maybe the format for repairing 3-D targets should be changed.  Mark is calling to see how much it would cost to repair our targets at the Raglin target company.  Also workshops should be created to teach new members how to paint and repair the targets.  The range should also invest in painting the targets to look more realistic.  The subject will be brought back up at the next meeting.

Broadhead League;

It was suggested that we create a broadhead league like the Wednesday night leagues.  This would require the purchase of separate unmarked animal targets for broadhead use only.  This league could possibly replace or be run in addition to the current Wednesday night league shoots, especially in the summer as most members start to focus on shooting their hunting bows.  Specifics need to be discussed and voted on but this would likely consist of 14 animal targets, marked distance, unmarked distance, or a combination of the two.  The first hit would score, however you could shoot multiple arrows to hit the target with each successive arrow receiving a lower potential score.  A cost of $5 per night for members and $7 for guests was suggested to help recover some of the target purchase cost.  This broadhead league would have the potential of significantly increasing club participation of hunters who hit the range running up to the opening of the hunting seasons.  This will be discussed more at the next meeting so if you have an opinion please attend, email, or call an officer.

There are some large holes in the ground near the 60yd target on the practice range that need to be filled.  It was also discussed that the spigot near the 70 yarder on the practice range should be removed.

Feel free to keep the range clean by picking up trash, but be aware of other shooters.  Dan and Kevin (new members) said they would be out picking up trash whenever they could, thanks a lot guys.

We have a new member: Onsamo Gutierrez, hopefully that’s spelled correctly, welcome.

The county is starting to get closer to the practice range.  They have put picnic tables right by the practice butts and have chained them down.  Formal safety trail signs need to be made up soon.  Finally we are considering having the 3-D motion target company set up on the south range area next oasis shoot.  This is a really fun and competitive addition to the shoot activities, kind of like sporting clays with a bow.

Jim won the annual money can, $97 and he bought a shotgun with it, congratulation Jim.

A Brief Introduction

The Yolo Bowmen Archey Range was founded in 1958 with the aim to promote the sport of archery and bowhunting. The range is located at Grasslands Regional Park in Davis, California. Though the range is open to the public for a small fee ($5), formal membership is affordable and highly encouraged. The range consists of two 14 target fieldcourses and an excellent practice range.
