March 2007

Minutes of March 07, 2007;

The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:30 pm at the range by club president, Michael McCalister. Present at the meeting were Alex Vervilos, Robert Tabarez, Bill Hornof Sr, Mike Beddow, Bill Hornof Jr, Dave Haverstock, Randy Gastineau,  Al Rafferty,  Jim Wohlgemuth, Mark Rubio, Robert Williams, Paul Ackerman, Chad Reis, Louie Fusaro, Tom Sievwright, Guy Kahn, Steve Synhorst, Bill Sorenson, and Joe DeAngeles.

Old Business;

The Yolo Horseshoe Club has a new president and they are working very closely with the Yolo Bowmen to get everything back into shape and cleanliness. Bob and June are gone and their mobile home should be gone by the middle of March. The County of Yolo most likely has a new host that will be moved to the range after we meet with them to discuss some issues and items which have to do with who pays for what. The Yolo Bowmen have done some major clean up and have hauled two huge trailer loads of junk and garbage to the dump since Bob and June have left.

Range Report;

The practice range needs new bales before our Oasis shoot. Garbage cans need to be emptied, some limbs need to come down, need to mow and new bow racks should be placed. The range looks great and we should be ready for the Oasis Shoot on the 18th! I personally want to send out a huge “Thank You” to all who have worked their butts off to get the range ready for the shoot. (You all know who you are.)

Remember: No smoking on the range!

New Business:

We are starting up our Wednesday Night League on March 14th and Mike Beddow will be the keeper of the league passes. I believe these can be purchased for $30.00 for the league or you can pay $2.00 per Wednesday night. Several people have begun to shoot on “Club Shoot Sunday” again and we will be adding their scores each month. There is discussion going around about possibly having the local archery clubs shoot against each other on “Club Shoot Sundays” and making it a little more fun and also have bragging rights. Now that Bob and June are gone the repair work and replacement work has begun. The kitchen was “gutted” and Randy is working on that. The garage area needs a new floor and there are water leaks in areas. Some locks have been replaced some areas have already been cleaned up.

We will be using the Yolo Horseshoe signup room as our registration area this year and it should work out very well. Jim will be again heading up the registration for the shoot and has a top notch team lined up. Paul and Bill will be placing the shooting stakes again this year.  Jeff King and Brett will again be handling the food and kitchen area. As we all remember, last year they did one hellva job. Jeff also has a great team to rely on to get the work done on shoot day.

Randy is handling the raffle and we have received a ton of items to raffle off and Bill, Robert, Al and some others have really come thru again this year. The Montgomery Clan will handle the South end and Roy will head up the North end snack areas. We have also discussed getting shirts stenciled with the Yolo Bowman logo. Randy is checking on this and will give a report at the next meeting. To do this, you will need to supply your own shirt to get stenciled. We will order some hats and visors at the same time.

Al Rafferty is working on a shoot for October of this year at the Yolo Bowmen range and it will be a “Coats for Kids” shoot. Registration fees will be a new or used, clean coat to be donated to Channel 10 for their Coats for Kids drive. Channel 10 news will provide media coverage for this event.

We also want to remind everyone to please support and buy from both, Wilderness Archery and the Bow Rack as these two pro shops really help The Yolo Bowen with donations and other items through out the year. They have come through again this year for our shoot and we definitely appreciate it. A few new members have been attending the monthly meetings and they are definitely welcomed and appreciated.

Nor-Cal Report:

Alex has been doing a tremendous job keeping the Bowmen up to speed on the Nor-Cal events. Nor-Cal has a new President in Randy Long and the Bowmen wish him well in his new position.

A Brief Introduction

The Yolo Bowmen Archey Range was founded in 1958 with the aim to promote the sport of archery and bowhunting. The range is located at Grasslands Regional Park in Davis, California. Though the range is open to the public for a small fee ($5), formal membership is affordable and highly encouraged. The range consists of two 14 target fieldcourses and an excellent practice range.
